OKX review
CryptoDeep crypto liquidity, low taker fees, and strong P2P funding in many markets.
Crypto traders who want spot + derivatives depth and flexible local funding.
Anyone wanting leveraged FX on majors (use a forex broker instead).
Fees, explained
The real cost of a trade is the spread plus any commission, plus funding and withdrawal fees, not just the headline number. We separately measure the real average from a funded account at live session times; a figure marked "testing in progress" is one we have not finished measuring ourselves.
What we measured ourselves
Spreads read live from a funded Spot account in the OKX spot order book, not the marketing number. Spot readings at real session times; we are building a running average.
| Pair | Our spread | Live quote (bid / ask) | Session | Measured |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BTC/USDT | ~0.1 USDT | 79,439.5 / 79,439.6 | Live spot | 2026-09-07 |
That is about 0.13 bps of price - roughly the minimum tick. For crypto spot the spread is tiny at every major venue; the real cost is the exchange trading fee, not the spread, so we compare crypto venues on fees.
Regulation & safety
OKX operates under 2 regulatory licences: VARA (Dubai), Registered/licensed in multiple markets. Regulation is not a guarantee against loss - leverage and volatility do the damage - but it tells you who you can complain to and how client funds are meant to be handled. Always trade with the entity that actually onboards your country.
Opening an account
- Register with your email and verify it.
- Complete identity verification (KYC) - a government ID and proof of address.
- Fund the account using P2P, Card, USDT, Crypto transfer.
- Start on a demo. Size positions small. Keep a trading journal from day one.
The honest cons
- Crypto is highly volatile - capital at real risk
- Some products restricted by jurisdiction
- Derivatives are advanced - not for day one
What we like
- Very deep liquidity and competitive taker fees
- Strong P2P for local funding in many markets
- Built-in Web3 wallet and DEX access
OKX fees and what they actually cost
OKX charges 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker on the standard spot tier. The maker rate is the lowest of the three tier-one venues we track, and the taker rate matches Binance and Bybit exactly. For a patient trader placing limit orders, that 0.02% difference per side is the only fee edge available among licensed exchanges.
| Trading style | $1,000 round trip | 240 trades a year |
|---|---|---|
| Maker (limit orders) | $1.60 | $384 |
| Taker (market orders) | $2.00 | $480 |
Note what that table implies: on OKX the difference between patience and impatience is roughly $96 a year on a modest position. Compare across venues on the fee calculator.
The one spread we have measured ourselves
We read roughly 0.1 USDT on BTC/USDT from a funded account. That is the only first-hand spread reading we hold for any crypto venue so far, and it is tight. It matters because the published fee is not the full cost: the spread is paid on both sides and never advertised, and on thinner pairs it can exceed the fee entirely.
Regulation: licensed, with the usual caveat
OKX holds a VARA licence in Dubai and is registered or licensed in several other markets. That is meaningfully more than an offshore venue like MEXC offers, and meaningfully less than a full tier-one banking licence. As always, the question is which entity onboards you, because a group licence in one jurisdiction does not automatically extend to a customer in another. See tier-one regulation.
What OKX is genuinely good at
Breadth. Spot, derivatives, earn products and on-chain tools sit in one account with deep books on the majors, and local funding options are more flexible than most. For a trader who wants one venue that does several jobs competently rather than one job brilliantly, that is the case for OKX.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone wanting leveraged FX on currency majors: use a forex broker, not a crypto exchange. Anyone who places only market orders will not capture the maker advantage and should decide on liquidity and jurisdiction instead. And anyone whose priority is the absolute lowest spot fee will find MEXC cheaper, at the cost of the licence.
What we have not verified yet
Withdrawal timings on OKX are marked testing in progress. We time real withdrawals from funded accounts before publishing a number, and we would rather leave a visible gap than copy a figure from a help page. Compare it directly against the alternatives: Binance vs OKX, OKX vs Bybit, MEXC vs OKX.
