How to buy Bitcoin with naira in Nigeria (2026)
The practical way to buy Bitcoin with naira in 2026 is two steps: buy USDT with naira on a P2P market, then swap the USDT for Bitcoin on the spot market. On 11 Oct 2026, OKX's naira P2P adverts sold USDT at 1,363.00 to 1,363.95 naira with no P2P trading fee, and the swap to Bitcoin costs 0.100% at OKX's regular taker rate. At those figures, 100,000 naira bought about 73.4 USDT and the swap fee was about 0.07 USDT.

What the two steps cost on 11 Oct 2026
Step 1 is a P2P trade: you buy USDT at an advert’s naira price. Step 2 is a spot trade: you sell the USDT for Bitcoin on the BTC/USDT market and pay a trading fee.
| OKX | Bybit | MEXC | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naira price to buy 1 USDT (P2P) | 1,363.00 to 1,363.95 | About 1,359 to 1,363.60 | 1,356 to 1,363.20 (ordinary adverts) |
| P2P platform fee | No trading fee | “0 Transaction Fees” for takers | Zero platform fee |
| Payment methods shown | Bank transfer, PalmPay, Moniepoint | Bank transfer, OPay, Kuda among others | Bank transfer, OPay, PalmPay, Kuda |
| Smallest advert limit seen | 1,300 naira | Not recorded | From 5,000 naira |
| Spot maker fee | 0.080% | 0.1000% | 0.0000% |
| Spot taker fee | 0.100% | 0.1000% | 0.0500% on BTC/USDT |
The figures come from each exchange’s own pages:
- OKX: the P2P market linked above and OKX’s fee schedule.
- Bybit: Bybit’s naira P2P market, its P2P sell page for the zero-fee statement, and Bybit’s trading fee structure, last updated on 2 Sep 2026.
- MEXC: MEXC’s naira P2P market, MEXC’s P2P guide and MEXC’s fee overview.
Three notes on the table:
- The fee tier assumed. OKX puts an account in its regular tier when it holds under 100,000 USD in assets or trades under 1,000,000 USD in 30 days. The Bybit figures are its non-VIP rates.
- Maker or taker. An order that fills immediately at the market price pays the taker fee. A limit order that waits in the order book pays the maker fee.
- Bank charges. MEXC says charges from your bank or payment provider are separate from its zero platform fee.
A worked example with 100,000 naira
At 1,363 naira per USDT, 100,000 naira buys about 73.4 USDT. Swapping that for Bitcoin at a 0.100% taker fee, the regular rate on OKX and the non-VIP rate on Bybit, costs about 0.07 USDT.
MEXC’s BTC/USDT taker fee of 0.0500% is half that rate, or 0.0400% with the 20% discount for paying fees in MX tokens.
The P2P price matters far more than the spot fee. On OKX, adverts to sell USDT ran from 1,362.85 to 1,363.00 naira, so the gap between the buy side and the sell side, the spread, was about one naira. To test other amounts, use our crypto fee calculator.
Featured adverts on MEXC were the dearest on the page
On 11 Oct 2026, the adverts labelled “Featured” at the top of MEXC’s naira lists were worse for the user than the ordinary adverts below them.
| MEXC advert type | You buy USDT at | You sell USDT at |
|---|---|---|
| Featured (top of list) | 1,380 to 1,464.10 naira | 1,326 naira |
| Ordinary | 1,356 to 1,363.20 naira | 1,363.85 to 1,364.80 naira |
Buying 100 USDT from a featured advert at 1,380 naira cost 138,000 naira. The same 100 USDT from an ordinary advert at 1,356 naira cost 135,600 naira, a difference of 2,400 naira.
Sellers were hit the same way: the featured advert paid about 38 naira per USDT less than the ordinary adverts just below it. Scroll past the featured rows and compare prices before you pick an advert.
How to buy Bitcoin with naira, step by step
- Open an account on an exchange with a naira P2P market. OKX has no minimum to open, and its funding methods are P2P, card, USDT and crypto transfer. MEXC requires KYC verification before you can use P2P.
- Open the P2P market and select USDT and NGN. On 11 Oct 2026 the methods shown across the three exchanges included bank transfer, OPay, PalmPay, Kuda and Moniepoint.
- Compare adverts by price, not by position. Skip featured rows that cost more, and check that your amount sits inside the advert’s limits.
- Place the order. On MEXC the payment window shown was 30 minutes.
- Receive the USDT. MEXC says the seller’s crypto is locked in escrow and released only after payment is confirmed.
- Swap the USDT for Bitcoin on the BTC/USDT spot market. Buy Bitcoin with a market order (taker fee) or a limit order (maker fee if it rests in the book).
Why Binance is not a naira route
Binance announced on 5 Mar 2024 that it was discontinuing all Nigerian naira services. The dates were:
| Date | What ended |
|---|---|
| 28 Feb 2024 | NGN P2P pairs delisted |
| 5 Mar 2024 | NGN deposits stopped |
| 7 Mar 2024 | Spot NGN pairs delisted |
| 8 Mar 2024 | NGN withdrawals ended |
We checked this ourselves. On 11 Oct 2026 we opened Binance P2P’s USDT market with NGN selected, and it returned another currency’s market instead: naira was not offered.
Who regulates crypto in Nigeria
Nigeria’s Investments and Securities Act 2025 defines “securities” to include “virtual and digital assets” and investment contracts. The Act makes the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the apex regulator of the Nigerian capital market. It gives the SEC power to register and regulate virtual and digital asset exchanges, virtual asset service providers and digital asset operators.
On 2 Jul 2026 the SEC admitted seven firms to its Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme (ARIP), including Luno Fintech Nigeria Limited and Bitbarter Technologies Limited. The SEC says this approval-in-principle “is not a final licence and remains conditional on the entity’s continued compliance”.
The SEC also advises the public to verify the regulatory status of anyone promoting an investment product or service through the Commission’s official channels before dealing with them.
OKX says it is regulated by VARA in Dubai and registered or licensed in multiple markets. That is OKX’s own description, and it is not a statement about its status in Nigeria.
The downsides
- Crypto is highly volatile. Your capital is at real risk, and the naira value of your Bitcoin can fall after you buy.
- Some products are restricted by jurisdiction. Not everything an exchange lists is open to every user.
- Derivatives are not for day one. Bybit lists non-VIP perpetual and futures fees of 0.0200% maker and 0.0550% taker. Those are advanced products, and you do not need them to own Bitcoin. Stay on the spot market.
- P2P prices differ advert by advert. The MEXC snapshot shows that choosing the wrong advert can cost 2,400 naira on a 100 USDT purchase.
