How to verify (KYC) your HFM account
To verify your HFM account you upload proof of identity (a valid passport, national ID or driver's licence) and proof of residence (a utility bill or bank statement, usually dated within the last six months) inside the HFM Client Area, then wait for HFM's compliance team to review them. Verification is required before you can withdraw, and in most cases before you can fund a live account. HFM does not publish a fixed review time we could verify, so treat any number you see quoted elsewhere with caution and check the status in your own Client Area.
HFM account verification is a two-document process: you upload proof of identity and proof of residence in the HFM Client Area, and a compliance officer reviews them. Whether you are doing HFM account verification in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa or anywhere else HFM accepts clients, the requirements are the same because they come from HFM’s regulators rather than from any single country. You cannot withdraw money from an unverified account, so this is a step to finish on day one rather than the day you want your funds back.
This guide walks through the documents, the step by step upload process, the common reasons people get rejected, and what verification does and does not unlock.
Why HFM asks for KYC at all
HFM holds licences from the FCA in the UK, CySEC in Cyprus, the FSCA in South Africa, the CMA in Kenya, the DFSA in Dubai and the FSA in Seychelles. Every one of those regulators requires brokers to confirm who their clients are before handling their money. KYC (“Know Your Customer”) is not an HFM invention and not a delay tactic.
The practical upside for you is that a broker that insists on proper KYC is a broker operating inside a real regulatory framework. That is worth more than a signup flow that asks for nothing. Note that HFM is not available to US residents, so US-based traders will not get through onboarding regardless of documents.
Documents you need for HFM account verification
Have these ready before you start, as clear colour photographs or scans:
Proof of identity (POI)
- An international passport, national ID card, or driver’s licence
- Must be valid and in date, showing your full name, date of birth, photo and document number
- All four corners visible, no glare, no fingers covering text
Proof of residence (POR)
- A utility bill, bank statement, or official government correspondence
- Must show your full name and your residential address
- Generally needs to be recent, commonly within the last six months
- A PO box or business address is usually not accepted
The single rule that matters most: the name and address on your documents must match exactly what you typed into the registration form. “Ade Samuel” on the form and “Adesamuel Okonkwo” on the ID will get bounced.
HFM account verification step by step
- Register for an account and confirm your email address.
- Log into the HFM Client Area with the credentials you were sent.
- Find the verification or “My Profile” section, which normally flags your account as unverified.
- Complete any remaining profile fields, including the financial suitability questionnaire that regulated brokers are required to run.
- Upload your proof of identity. Use the original file from your phone camera rather than a screenshot of a screenshot.
- Upload your proof of residence.
- Submit and wait for the compliance review. Your Client Area status will update.
- Once verified, set up funding. HFM lists bank transfer, card, Skrill and Neteller as its methods. Availability of each depends on your country, so check what actually appears in your own Client Area.
We are not going to quote a verification turnaround time, because HFM does not publish one we could independently verify. Check your own status rather than trusting numbers on forums.
What verification unlocks, and what it costs
Verification is what allows you to withdraw. Regulated brokers cannot send funds to an unidentified person, so an unverified account is effectively a one-way street.
On costs: HFM states it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees on its own side, though your own bank or payment processor can still charge a transfer fee, and that is outside HFM’s control. On dormant accounts, HFM does not publish a clear inactivity fee that we could verify, so do not assume there is none - check HFM’s current terms directly. We have found no published verification fee either way, and we have not tested this ourselves.
The real cost of trading with HFM is the spread. HFM publishes Premium and Cent accounts from 1.4 pips with no commission, Pro from 0.6 pips, and Zero Spread from 0.0 pips plus a commission, all swap-free. Our own first-hand measurement of Premium EUR/USD during the London session on 7 September 2026 came out at 2.7 pips, meaningfully wider than the advertised 1.4. Advertised spreads are best-case figures, not averages, at this broker and at every other broker.
Common reasons HFM rejects documents
- The address document is older than the accepted window
- The bill is in a parent’s, landlord’s or spouse’s name
- A cropped image where the document edges are cut off
- A screenshot of a mobile banking app rather than an official statement PDF
- Name spelling or ordering differs from the registration form
- An expired ID
If you are rejected, you are not banned. Fix the specific issue named in the email and resubmit. If the reason is unclear, message HFM support and ask which field failed.
Honest downsides worth knowing before you verify
HFM’s entry point is genuinely low, with accounts from a $0 minimum deposit and Pro from $100, and its African licensing is real rather than cosmetic. But its crypto-CFD range is thinner than crypto-native venues, premium account tiers require larger balances to access, and US residents cannot open an account at all. Verify with your eyes open.
One point of 2026 context: regulators across several of HFM’s licensing jurisdictions have continued tightening client onboarding standards, which is why KYC forms have generally become longer rather than shorter. Expect more questions, not fewer.
Trading leveraged products carries volatility and a real risk of losing your capital. This guide is education only, not financial advice - confirm all rules, fees and availability with HFM and with the regulator in your own country before you deposit.

Frequently asked
How long does HFM account verification take?
HFM does not publish a guaranteed review time that we have been able to verify, so we will not quote a number. Reviews are handled by a human compliance team and are usually faster when your documents are clear, in date and match your registration details exactly. Check the verification status inside your HFM Client Area rather than relying on figures quoted on forums.
Can I trade on HFM before I complete KYC?
You can open an account and explore the platform, but full access, funding and especially withdrawals depend on completing verification. Treat KYC as the first thing you do after registering, not something you leave until you want your money out. Regulated brokers cannot process a withdrawal to an unverified account.
What if my utility bill is not in my own name?
This is the single most common reason for rejection, particularly for people renting or living with family. A bank statement, a credit card statement or an official government letter in your own name will usually work instead. If nothing is in your name, contact HFM support before uploading and ask what alternative documents they accept in your country.
Does HFM charge anything to verify my account?
We have seen no published verification fee from HFM, and verification is a compliance step rather than a service. HFM states it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees on its own side. Because we have not independently verified an account-opening or verification charge either way, check HFM's current terms before assuming anything.
