How to cash out crypto in Kenya to M-Pesa: what P2P paid
You cash out in Kenya by selling USDT on an exchange's P2P market to a buyer who pays your M-Pesa. At our reading of 15:43 EAT on 11 Oct 2026, 100 USDT sold in a KSh 10,000 order returned about KSh 12,992 on Binance, KSh 12,918 on OKX, KSh 12,899 on Bybit and KSh 12,818 on MEXC. That is one reading, and you should release the coins only after the money shows in your own M-Pesa.
Cashing out crypto in Kenya means selling USDT on an exchange’s P2P market to a buyer who pays your M-Pesa. At our reading of 15:43 EAT on 11 Oct 2026, 100 USDT sold in a KSh 10,000 order returned about KSh 12,992 on Binance, KSh 12,918 on OKX, KSh 12,899 on Bybit and KSh 12,818 on MEXC.
This is one reading on one afternoon. It does not tell you which market pays most tomorrow. We repeat it every day and publish the result with its history on our USDT to KES daily page.
What each market paid per USDT, by order size
These are our typical prices for selling 1 USDT, read at 15:43 EAT on 11 Oct 2026 from the public lists on Binance P2P, OKX P2P, Bybit P2P and MEXC P2P.
| Market | KSh 2,000 order | KSh 10,000 order | KSh 100,000 order | 100 USDT at the KSh 10,000 price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | KSh 130.03 | KSh 129.92 | KSh 129.87 | about KSh 12,992 |
| OKX | KSh 129.14 | KSh 129.18 | KSh 129.33 | about KSh 12,918 |
| Bybit | KSh 124.01 | KSh 128.99 | KSh 129.01 | about KSh 12,899 |
| MEXC | KSh 126.08 | KSh 128.18 | KSh 127.80 | about KSh 12,818 |
Three things stand out in this reading:
- The gap between markets was real money. Binance’s typical price returned KSh 174 more than MEXC’s on 100 USDT.
- Small sales did worst on two markets. On Bybit a KSh 2,000 sale got a typical KSh 124.01 per USDT against KSh 128.99 for a KSh 10,000 sale, a difference of KSh 4.98 per USDT. On MEXC the same comparison was KSh 126.08 against KSh 128.18. On Binance and OKX the typical price stayed within KSh 0.20 across all three sizes.
- On Bybit the best advert mattered at small sizes. The single best qualifying advert paid KSh 129.15 for a KSh 2,000 order, far above the typical KSh 124.01 at that size.
MEXC’s figures come from 9 to 11 qualifying adverts, depending on the order size.
What the pinned adverts cost on 100 USDT
Each market shows some adverts above the ordinary list. We record them apart and never count them in the typical price.
| Market | Pinned adverts at our reading | Paid per USDT | Compared with the typical KSh 10,000 price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | 1 Promoted Ad | KSh 124.06 | KSh 12,406 on 100 USDT, which is KSh 586 less than KSh 12,992 |
| OKX | 1 advert in a highlighted box | KSh 126.42 | KSh 12,642 on 100 USDT, which is KSh 276 less than KSh 12,918 |
| Bybit | 3 Featured adverts | KSh 129.10 to KSh 129.42 | Above its typical KSh 128.99 |
| MEXC | 4 Featured adverts | KSh 127 to KSh 128.87 | Typical was KSh 128.18 |
Pinned did not always mean worse: Bybit’s featured adverts paid more than its typical price. The practical point is that the advert at the top of the screen is not automatically the best price. Compare it with the list below it before you tap.
What we counted: adverts, minimums, payment methods and payment windows
At 15:44 EAT on 11 Oct 2026 we counted the adverts buying USDT for Kenyan shillings, which are the ones you sell to.
| Binance | OKX | Bybit | MEXC | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adverts buying USDT | 568 | 155 | 134 (218 without the default filter) | 26 |
| Smallest minimum order | KSh 1,000 | KSh 100 | KSh 150 | KSh 650 |
| Accept an M-Pesa method | 94% | 97% | 96% | 96% |
| Accept Airtel Money | 28% | 62% | 88% | 50% |
| Accept bank transfer | 49% | 58% | 39% | 69% |
| Most common time the buyer has to pay | 15 minutes (76% of adverts) | 120 minutes (37% of adverts) | 15 minutes (60% of adverts) | 30 minutes (58% of adverts) |
| Adverts from advertisers with a 90%+ completion rate | 67% | 89% | 91% | 65% |
M-Pesa was close to universal on all four markets. Airtel Money was not: it was accepted by 88% of adverts on Bybit but only 28% on Binance.
The payment window is the time the buyer is allowed, not how quickly they pay. OKX was the most spread out: 120 minutes on 37% of adverts, 30 minutes on 29% and 15 minutes on 19%. If you need the shillings soon, read the window on the advert before you open the order.
On fees, OKX’s P2P sell FAQ says it charges zero fee on P2P trading. Binance announced on 12 Mar 2024 a flat taker fee of 0.05 USDT per trade order on USDT pairs, applied from 19 Mar 2024 in a list of fiat markets that includes the Kenyan shilling.
How to sell USDT for M-Pesa without getting caught out
P2P is a trade with a stranger, and it carries risk. The loss that matters is releasing your USDT before the shillings are really in your account. These steps are built around that.
- Put the coins where the P2P market can use them. On OKX the crypto has to be in your Funding account before you can sell.
- Compare prices at your own order size. Filter the list by the amount you are selling and by M-Pesa. At our reading a KSh 2,000 sale was priced very differently from a KSh 10,000 sale on Bybit and MEXC.
- Check the offer is priced in Kenyan shillings. OKX’s P2P safety article for traders in Africa says M-Pesa adverts or trade offers priced in US dollars instead of shillings are the most reported scam pattern in the Kenyan market.
- Choose the advertiser before the rate. OKX advises putting completed orders, completion rate and account age ahead of a slightly better rate. At our count, about a third of adverts on Binance and MEXC came from advertisers below a 90% completion rate.
- Keep the chat and payment details inside the exchange app. OKX calls a counterparty pushing you to WhatsApp or Telegram the clearest red flag.
- When the buyer marks the order as paid, open your own M-Pesa. Confirm the money in your own app or statement, never on a screenshot. OKX says fake M-Pesa confirmations follow one playbook: a convincing image sent to make you release before you check.
- Ask for the M-Pesa transaction code and check the sender’s name. The code can be checked against a real statement. OKX tells sellers to make sure the money came from an account in the same name as the buyer’s OKX account.
- Release only then. On OKX, do not select Received until the payment is actually in your account.
- If the money does not arrive, dispute early. On OKX you can submit an appeal if the payment has not arrived within 5 minutes of the buyer selecting Paid. OKX’s advice is to open a dispute early once the timer has passed with no response.
- Keep proof you can show later. Bybit’s appeal guide says an appeal can only be submitted within five calendar days after the order is closed. As proof it asks for a video recording of your transaction history page showing the account name and number and the transaction with its amount, payer or payee name, date and time.
What OKX says about Kenya’s rules
OKX’s article says Kenya and Nigeria are its two largest African P2P markets and that M-Pesa is the payment rail in Kenya. It also says Kenya’s Virtual Asset Service Providers Regulations, 2026 were gazetted in July 2026 under the VASP Act, 2025. In OKX’s summary, they place licensing and supervision under the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority, with a compliance transition deadline of 4 November 2026. This is OKX’s summary, not a text we read ourselves.
How we read the lists
A script reads each exchange’s public advert list without an account.
- What counts: an advert counts only if it accepts the order size and its advertiser shows at least 10 completed orders and a completion rate of 90% or better.
- Typical price: the middle of the 10 best such prices, or of all of them where fewer than 10 qualify.
- Pinned adverts: Promoted Ad on Binance, Featured on Bybit and MEXC, and the highlighted box on OKX are recorded apart.
- What we leave out: adverts open only to takers in another country. On 11 Oct 2026 the MEXC and OKX shilling lists carried such adverts, priced far from the Kenyan market at around 190 on MEXC and 188 on OKX.

- The text of Kenya’s VASP regulations. We report OKX’s summary only.
